Starting in Larnaka, the coastal resort where the airport is situated, your journey takes you to Lefkosia (Nicosia), the capital, at the heart of the island; the pretty villages of the Troodos Mountains; the ancient town of Pafos, where Aphrodite was born; and the resort of Lemesos (Limassol), before returning to Larnaka. As distances are short, this is a leisurely journey with plenty of time to stop and make your own explorations - perhaps to indulge in some shopping, sample the delicious Mediterranean cuisine and enjoy the renowned Greek Cypriot hospitality.

Day 1: Larnaka
On arrival at Larnaka, collect your rental car at the airport and drive to your hotel. There is much to see in and around Larnaka. Of particular interest is Hala Sultan Tekke (an Islamic monument), or simply relax by taking a walk along the palm-shaded promenade. If you want to venture further, drive to Agia Napa, with some of the finest beaches on the island, or the small fishing port of Liopetri.

Day 2: Larnaka to Lefkosia (Nicosia) (45 kilometres)
Depart from Larnaka and drive to Lefkosia (Nicosia). Sightseeing opportunities include the ‘Green Line’ that divides this unique, walled capital city, the Cyprus Museum and Folk Art Museum for a fascinating insight to the island’s long history, and the charming Laiki Yitonia pedestrian area with its traditional houses, shops and restaurants.

Here, surrounded by thick forests, are the pretty villages of Agros, Kakopetria and Platres, where you may want to try some of the local produce - specialities are cheese, honey and wine. Nearby is Kykkos Monastery, famed for its frescoes. The energetic will enjoy a brisk walk in the clear, fragrant mountain air to the Caledonian Falls.

Day 4: Troodos to Pafos (113 kilometres)
Depart from Troodos and drive through attractive scenery of orchards and vineyards to Pafos, a UNESCO World Heritage site. When the sightseeing is done you can sample the freshly caught seafood at the picturesque fishing port.
